Japanese Experiment Module (JEM)
Summary:
The JEM, also known as Kibo, is a testbed for scientific research projects in orbit aboard the International Space Station. it was developed by JAXA and is the largest single ISS module, consisting of a pressurized module, exposed module for “outside” experiments, logistics module, remote manipulator system.
The Exposed Module allows for larger experiments or equipment such as the ILLUMA-T laser communications system, MAXI X-ray imager, CALET, and weather instruments like TEMPEST.
The system was deployed via Space Shuttle missions STS-123, 124 and 127.
