Pointing Stability: Vibration and Sway
Overview
FSO systems must efficiently process and transmit data which requires precision pointing and receiving. Movement such as vibrations, jarring or sway will adversely affect the accuracy of the optical transmission and its alignment with the receiver. Optical Ground Stations (OGS) are built into permanent structures which are designed to minimize the external movement effecting the optical transmission. Transportable Optical Ground Stations (TOGS) are more portable and are commonly mounted on anti-shock/vibration elements to protect the equipment during transport while dampening vibration and sway during operation.
