ITU-R
Overview
The ITU-R or International Telecommunication Union for Radiocommunications is an international specialized agency of the United Nations that governs the worldwide radio frequency spectrum and monitors the allocation of in-orbit satellite resources. ITU-R develops standards in RF communications to prevent “harmful interference between radio stations of different countries”, registers certain frequencies, and verifies satellite orbital position. The agency also provides regulations for frequency coordination and registration, optimizes spectrum availability and flexibility.
