ScyLight
Overview
ScyLight is a program run by the European Space Agency (ESA) with the purpose to address innovative optical communications technologies for satellite communication applications. ScyLight aims to use optical communications to support the developing European market, utilize current technology, and seize market opportunities as they arise. The four main areas of development are “Optical Communication Technology at System Level”, “Optical Communication Terminal Technology”, “Intra-Satellite Photonics/Optical Payloads”, and “Quantum Cryptography Technologies”. An open call for optical communication proposals in these areas has been open since March 30, 2017, and closes at the end of 2020.
As of November 12, 2019, the ScyLight program is supported by 14 ESA Member States: Austria, Canada, the Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Norway, the Netherlands, Romania, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. [1]
