Analytical Space, Inc.
Overview
Analytical Space is a Boston-based satellite communications company dedicated to RF-laser hybrid communications technologies. The company was formed on March 7, 2016, at the Harvard iLab. Companies partnering with Analytical Space include MIT’s The Engine, Space Angels, Flybridge, and several business incubator labs. [1]

The primary limitation for current orbital satellites is the data downlink window. Satellites orbiting the Earth only come into contact with their assigned ground terminals for two to three hours per day. This severely limits the amount of transmittable data that can be used. Analytical Space addresses this problem by creating a mesh of small satellites that act as a relay between orbiting satellites and ground terminals.
Instead of waiting for their small window to communicate with their ground terminal, orbital satellites can transmit their data to a nearby Analytical Space relay satellite. Since the relay satellites are crosslinked, the orbital data easily is transmitted to the relay satellite that is at the client satellite’s ground terminal. The data is then downlinked through RF-laser technology. In this way, both the narrow window for data transmission and the delay in information updates from orbital satellites can be mitigated or removed completely. [2] [3]
