SmartOptics
Overview
SmartOptics is a telecommunications company based in Oslo, Norway, whose main focus is updating current communication systems to improve the data transfer. SmartOptics is a research and manufacturing company that uses case studies around the world to optimize their products. They generate case studies for almost any field before they go ahead with creating a solution for their specific problems. They do projects for companies, the private sector, government, and even individuals.
SmartOptics focuses on building transponders and optical transceivers with wavelength division multiplexing (WDM), which is a technology that increases the bandwidth by allowing multiple data transfer at different frequencies to be sent through an optical fiber cable. Also, the signals that are sent through a WDM system are all independent of one another.
At the beginning of 2020 SmartOptics joined a research group ran by RISE Acreo, which is a Swedish research institute that focuses on Electrical and Optical Engineering research, and Norwegian Polewall, a Free Space Optics (FSO) company. The goal of this project is to develop a technological solution for 100Gbps data transmission through the air. SmartOptics and their partners have an initial goal of implementing their new 100Gbps FSO technology in airports since airports require a bulk of data transfer in a short on-ground window. This technology is also going to be implemented in places where radio wave pollution is prohibited such as hospitals and industrial facilities.
